Wire Harness Lead Trainer
Location: Kalamazoo, MI | Remote Considered
Build the Training Program Behind a Growing Manufacturing Operation
We are seeking a Wire Harness Lead Trainer to develop and lead hands-on operator training for a new, rapidly growing wire harness manufacturing operation. This is an opportunity for an experienced wire harness professional who enjoys teaching, developing people, and building effective training programs from the ground up.
In this highly visible role, you will help build a skilled production workforce by establishing standardized training, developing operator capabilities, and creating qualification processes that support consistent quality in a high-mix, quick-turn manufacturing environment.
What You’ll Do
- Develop and lead a hands-on operator training program covering wire harness assembly, equipment operation, manufacturing processes, and quality standards.
- Train and coach operators in wire preparation, cutting, stripping, crimping, routing, assembly, and electrical testing.
- Create standardized training materials, digital work instructions, and practical skills assessments to drive consistent operator performance.
- Establish operator qualification and certification processes aligned with IPC/WHMA-A-620 and applicable quality requirements.
- Teach operators to effectively use manufacturing equipment interfaces, digital work instructions, and production assembly workflows.
- Evaluate operator proficiency through hands-on assessments, reference-harness builds, and quality sign-offs.
- Partner closely with manufacturing and automation engineers to continuously improve training as processes, equipment, and production requirements evolve.
- Scale training programs to support rapid workforce growth while improving operator productivity, first-pass yield, and overall manufacturing quality.
What You Bring
- 4+ years of experience in manufacturing training, workforce development, or production supervision, ideally within wire harness, cable assembly, or electromechanical manufacturing.
- Hands-on knowledge of wire preparation, crimping, harness assembly, routing, and electrical testing.
- Strong understanding of IPC/WHMA-A-620 standards and wire harness quality requirements.
- Experience training, coaching, or mentoring manufacturing operators.
- Ability to develop training curricula, standardized work instructions, and practical skills assessments.
- Strong communication and instructional skills with the ability to translate technical manufacturing processes into clear, practical, hands-on training.
- A builder’s mindset and the ability to establish and scale training programs within a growing manufacturing environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- IPC/WHMA-A-620 certification or experience delivering certification-based training.
- Experience developing or leading manufacturing training programs or operator academies.
- Familiarity with digital work instructions, automated wire-processing equipment, and manufacturing execution systems (MES).
- Background in high-mix, quick-turn manufacturing or new production/startup environments.
- Experience with Lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, and operator productivity metrics.
Why This Opportunity Stands Out
This is more than a traditional trainer position. You’ll have the opportunity to build and shape the operator training function, establish the standards by which employees are trained and qualified, and directly influence production quality and workforce performance.
For someone who combines deep wire harness knowledge with a passion for teaching and developing others, this is an opportunity to create a training program that can scale alongside a growing manufacturing operation.
