We are seeking a hands-on Controller to own the accounting operations of a fast-growing, venture-backed digital media and subscription business. This role will be responsible for managing the monthly close, improving accounting processes, and ensuring accurate GAAP-compliant financial reporting across high-volume transaction platforms.
This is a roll-up-your-sleeves role for someone who enjoys solving complex accounting challenges, improving systems, and working with large datasets.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the monthly close process including journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis
- Reduce the close timeline from ~30 days to ~10 days through process improvements
- Maintain GAAP-compliant accounting across subscription and transactional revenue streams
- Manage revenue recognition , cost of revenue, and royalty-related accounting
- Reconcile large transaction data sets from platforms such as Stripe, Apple, Google, and Roku
- Improve and standardize accounting processes and controls
- Support bank debt reporting, audits, and financial reviews
- Provide reporting to support sales tax and other compliance requirements
Team Structure
- Reports to the VP of Finance & Accounting
- Works alongside a Senior Accountant
- Collaborates with data analysts on large transaction datasets
** This role will begin as an individual contributor role and grow into a leadership role as the company grows.
Qualifications
- Experience as a Senior Accountant or Controller in a growth-stage company
- Proven ability to own and manage the full monthly close
- Strong GAAP accounting knowledge
- Experience working with large financial datasets and multiple data sources
- Experience with subscription, SaaS, streaming, or recurring revenue models preferred
- Familiarity with platforms such as Stripe, Apple, Google, Roku , or similar payment systems
- CPA preferred but not required
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary: $120,000 – $145,000 depending on experience
