Head of Compliance - for Residential Treatment Facilities
Direct Report to: Chief Executive Officer
Primary Purpose and Function:
The Head of Compliance is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing the company’s compliance program across its residential treatment facilities and psychiatric hospitals. This executive role ensures adherence to federal and state regulations, accreditation standards, and internal policies, while fostering a culture of ethical conduct and patient safety.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Minimum 10 years of healthcare compliance experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Experience in psychiatric hospitals, behavioral health, or residential treatment facilities required; Joint Commission and CIQH experience strongly preferred.
- Proven track record of managing multi-state compliance programs.
- Bachelor’s degree required; in behavioral health, social work, risk discipline, or nursing preferred
- Ability to travel throughout Indiana and out of state facilities on regular basis
Primary Responsibilities:
Regulatory Oversight
- Ensure compliance with federal and state healthcare regulations, including HIPAA, CMS, Joint Commission, and state-specific psychiatric hospital requirements.
- Monitor changes in laws and regulations across all six states and update policies accordingly.
Compliance Program Leadership
- Design, implement, and maintain a comprehensive compliance program tailored to residential treatment and psychiatric hospital operations.
- Develop and enforce compliance policies, procedures, and training programs for staff at all facilities.
Auditing & Monitoring
- Conduct regular compliance audits and risk assessments across all facilities.
- Implement corrective action plans and monitor progress to ensure sustained compliance.
Education & Training
- Provide ongoing compliance education to staff, leadership, and Board members.
Investigations & Reporting
- Lead investigations into compliance concerns, patient safety issues, or regulatory violations and reporting.
Collaboration & Advisory
- Partner with clinical, operational, and administrative leaders to integrate compliance into daily operations.
- Serve as the primary liaison with regulators, auditors, and accreditation bodies.
- Travel to facilities across Ohio, Texas, Indiana, Arizona, Nevada, and Iowa for site visits, audits, and staff training.
- Assist facilities in creating and implementing performance improvement projects
- Conduct timely and regular evaluation of compliance regulations, and is present and active during compliance visits, surveys, and correspondence.
- Upholds familiarity with State and Federal laws and regulations
