Job Description

The Role The Safety Supervisor provides overall strategic direction and leadership in establishing a safety culture for a team of operations managers and passenger vehicle drivers. This role is focused on managing safety processes and procedures for railroad crew transportation operations to reduce accidents and injuries.


The Safety will lead safety compliance programs spanning 300-500 vehicles and 600-1,000 drivers. Great candidates will share our passion for safety and reliable process discipline.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborates with Operational leaders to ensure compliance with company policies, Federal and State Laws regarding driver selection and safety.

• Oversees and monitors quality of training for railroad crew transportation operations.

• Development, implementation and monitoring of policies and procedural guidelines to reduce liability exposure from employee injuries, vehicle accidents and public safety issues.

• Act as a primary liaison to assigned client operations teams for day-to-day client-specific safety issues.

• Investigate post-incident root cause, determine preventability, initiate discipline(if required), provide appropriate post-event training/coaching, document investigation findings with corrective action and provide documentation to human resources for the driver file.

• Investigate Safety Hotline complaints and take appropriate action based on investigation.

• Track operational driver and vehicle compliance tasks for an assigned region/client.

• Hold ongoing safety meetings with operational leadership to discuss incident trends. Collaborate with the operational leadership to create corrective action for continuous improvement. Implement corrective action, document corrective action effectiveness and report overall progress/outcomes to senior safety leadership.

• Manages content and productivity of safety ambassadors within the assigned region/client.

• Maintains a significant onsite presence in railroad client yard operations and field offices to understand operating environments and reinforce driver safety behaviors.

• Travels to assigned areas to provide onsite driver training as needed.

• Tracks and manage driver compliance for ongoing, quarterly, safety training.


Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Advanced degree preferred, Transportation Safety Certification preferred.

• 3 - 5 years prior safety passenger transportation experience. Familiarity with railroad operations preferred.

• Familiarity with state and federal labor, DOT, OSHA, EEOC and substance abuse legislation.

• Communication and interpersonal skills necessary to effectively motivate employees, communicate objectives and action plans, and establish positive relationships with stakeholders.

• Proven leadership expertise to motivate field operations leaders and drivers to improve safety behaviors and outcomes.

• Demonstrated problem-solving ability; handle demanding situations diplomatically. Requires exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Strong attention to detail.

• Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office productivity software, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

• Ability to conduct physical vehicle and facility inspections, occasionally lifting/moving 25-50 pounds, with acute vision and hearing abilities.

• Focused sense of urgency to ensure deadlines and milestones are upheld.
