Senior Galvanizing Furnace & Thermal Process Engineer, greater Pittsburgh, PA
Our client, a well-established engineering and technology leader in the industrial metals sector is seeking a Senior Galvanizing Furnace & Thermal Process Engineer to support advanced thermal systems used in steel manufacturing, including continuous annealing, galvanizing, and heat treatment lines. This role plays a critical part in process design, system integration, and on-site commissioning of cutting-edge furnace and process equipment. This is a great opportunity for a mechanically driven engineer with strong thermal processing knowledge who enjoys cross-disciplinary collaboration, global project exposure, and the challenge of solving real-world engineering problems at scale.
Key Responsibilities:
· • Serve as a subject matter expert on thermal process engineering and system integration for heavy industrial applications.
· • Design integrated furnace systems, mechanical machinery, and related controls for industrial steel lines, including functional descriptions and process control logic.
· • Lead and mentor junior engineers, while reviewing and approving complex technical work.
· • Coordinate technical interfaces across disciplines—ensuring design consistency, schedule alignment, code compliance, and safety planning.
· • Serve as a technical liaison between engineering teams, project managers, customers, consultants, and global stakeholders.
· • Support all project phases, including design reviews, procurement input, customer communication, and documentation.
· • Provide onsite support during installation, startup, and commissioning—including troubleshooting and optimization.
· • Participate in both domestic and international travel to project sites as needed.
Required Qualifications:
· • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electro-Mechanical Technology, or a related field; equivalent technical experience will be considered.
· • 8–10 or more years of engineering experience, with a significant portion in thermal processing or heavy industrial environments.
· • Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience with steel fabrications, piping systems, weldments, and structural equipment.
· • Minimum 2 years of experience in a technical leadership or engineering project coordination role.
· • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to present ideas clearly in a cross-functional, multicultural environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
· • Experience with furnace systems, combustion, annealing, quenching, tempering, or galvanizing processes.
· • Familiarity with metallurgy, industrial atmosphere gases, insulation systems, and heat recovery techniques.
· • Exposure to automation and electrical control systems (e.g., PLCs, HMI, SCADA).
· • Proficiency with CAD and engineering design tools (e.g., Autodesk Inventor); knowledge of NFPA, FM, UL, or NEC requirements is a plus.
· • PE license, PMP/CAPM certification, or similar credentials preferred.
Additional Information:
· • Competitive compensation and benefits package available starting day one.
· • Relocation support may be offered based on experience and need.
