Vice President of Operations
Industrial technology company with 300 employees, specializing in scientific instrumentation for analyzing critical quality parameters in various industries, including food, agricultural, industrial, and environmental. The company operates through two main divisions: Process Solutions and Laboratory Instrumentation, with manufacturing locations for the process solutions business unit in Massachusetts, Canada, and Italy.
Position Overview:
The Vice President of Operations will oversee all aspects of operations, including manufacturing, project management, sourcing, manufacturing engineering, and delivery, for the Process Solutions business unit.
Key Responsibilities:
- Production Management: Coordinate production activities for operations, ensuring high-quality output and meeting targets.
- Team Leadership: Cultivate a high performing, engaged operations team.
- Order Entry & Scheduling: Oversee the order entry process to ensure accuracy and timeliness and compliance with export control requirements. Develop and maintain production schedules to meet customer demands and optimize resource utilization.
- Supplier and Contract Manufacturer Management: Oversee relationships with strategic suppliers and contract manufacturers to ensure quality and timely delivery of products. Negotiate contracts and manage performance of suppliers. Lead processes to identify, qualify, and implement lower cost suppliers and understand and negotiate supplier agreements and contracts.
- Inventory Management: Manage inventory levels to ensure availability of materials and components while minimizing excess stock. Implement inventory control systems and processes to track and manage inventory accurately.
- Automation and Process Standardization: Drive automation and process standardization initiatives to enhance efficiency and scalability.
- Quality Control: Establish and enforce quality control standards to ensure products meet specifications and regulatory requirements. Conduct regular quality audits and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Cost Management: Develop and manage budgets for production operations. Identify cost-saving opportunities and implement strategies to reduce operational costs. Collect and analyze data to find places of waste, yield variance, overtime, and other key production and operating metrics.
- Safety Management: Ensure compliance with safety regulations across all manufacturing. Conduct regular safety audits and implement corrective actions. Monitor employee and plant safety, monitor production equipment, and manage assets including repair or replacement of equipment.
- Data Management Systems: Implement data, visual, and daily management systems across the operations teams.
Experience and Qualifications:
- Leadership Experience: 10+ years of progressive operations leadership experience in manufacturing, preferably in highly engineered systems manufacturing.
- Operational Expertise: Experience in precision, low-volume, high-mix manufacturing. Strong integration and operational consolidation skills.
- Supply Chain Management: Expertise in supply chain management, including vendor management, make-versus-buy decisions, and global sourcing strategies.
- Team Management: Leadership and team management skills and ability to work with design engineers. Manage people processes including selection, hiring promotion, and compensation.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering, or a related technical field.
- Project Management: Excellent project management skills with the ability to handle complex technical assemblies.
- Travel Requirements: Ability to travel internationally as required.
Team Structure:
The VP of Operations will oversee a team of approximately 50 people, split between direct / indirect.
Location & Travel Requirements:
The position is based in Westborough, MA, with travel to Canada and Italy.
