Drilling Superintendent
Location: Reno, Nevada ( On-site position ; relocation assistance available)
- Travel: Up to 30% travel to support domestic and international drilling operations.
Base Salary:$180k - $200k (commensurate with experience)
- Bonus: 10% annual discretionary bonus

Position Overview
We are partnered with a leading energy development company to find an experienced Drilling Superintendent to oversee safe, efficient, and cost-effective drilling operations. In this office-based leadership role (Reno, NV), you will direct field personnel, optimize operational performance, and manage drilling programs across multiple projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Safety & Compliance: Champion a rigorous safety culture, ensure strict compliance with well control procedures, participate in safety audits, and assist with emergency response planning.
- Personnel & Contractor Leadership: Supervise and mentor Drill Site Managers, well site leaders, and field personnel. Hold third-party contractors accountable for safety, performance, and contract compliance.
- Operational Excellence: Oversee rig mobilizations, demobilizations, and major operational transitions. Address complex technical challenges—such as well control events and stuck pipe—to minimize non-productive time (NPT).
- Standardization & Cost Control: Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), lead supplier quality meetings, review/approve operational expenses, and drive cost reduction initiatives.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with well engineering, geoscience, supply chain, and project management teams to build robust drilling programs.
Qualifications & Must-Haves
- Experience: 15+ to 20 years of progressive drilling experience working directly for an operator/oil and gas company(managing company men, well site leaders, or drilling supervisors rather than coming solely from rig contractors).
- Certifications: Must be well control certified at the IWCF supervisor level.
- Technical & Operational Skills: Proven track record in rig startups, creating standard operating procedures (SOPs), driving safety initiatives, and optimizing drilling performance.
- Education: A Bachelor’s degree in engineering is preferred but not required.
- Industry Background: Geothermal experience is preferred, though broader oil and gas operating experience is welcome.
- Communication & Tech: Excellent written and verbal communication skills; proficient in the Microsoft Office suite and Teams.
